We will have to make up the 3 missed days – I’m not sure where we stand on the day when the students were only in school for a few hours. The first make up day will be this coming Friday.
The district will make the decision on when the other two days will be made up. There is a Friday in March that is a day off for students (in-service for teachers) that may also be used. Hopefully, this means we will only need to add one day onto the end of the school year.
This week we will be starting on our biggest project of the school year - Flat Stanley. He is based on a book of the same title by Jeff Brown.
In the story, a young boy named Stanley is flattened by a large bulletin board that falls on him during the night. The doctor assures his family that he is just fine aside from being only 1/2 inch thick. He has many adventures as a flat child before returning to normal.
One of his adventures is being mailed in a large envelope to a friend in California.
Each of the kindergarteners in room 104 will create his/her own flat Stanley or Cynthia. These will then come home to you to be mailed out in large envelopes (provided) to friends or relatives in far off cities. After photos have been taken around town, the 'flats' are mailed back to us along with the photos and an explanaion of all the places visited.
We will have until June to complete this project but I like to send the Stanleys out before Midwinter break in case families have trips planned and would like to take Stanley or Cynthia along before mailing him or her out to someone else.
Here is a slide show of some of my Flat Stanley's adventures over the years.
